Post-cycle therapy - features and drugs

Most professional athletes were able to achieve heights in their sports careers precisely thanks to steroids. Properly selected drugs can quickly gain muscle mass and increase strength, speeding up recovery from physical exertion. Today, anabolics are also taken by bodybuilders who are just starting their way in sports.

However, taking steroids has not only positive, but also negative effects. Long-term use of high dosages of drugs leads to side effects, which post-cycle therapy (PCT) will help to cope with.

What is PCT for?

Any intake of anabolics changes the level of hormones in the body, due to which changes occur. However, with improper administration and excessively high dosages, side effects also occur:

  • disruption of the digestive tract;
  • cardiovascular diseases;
  • increase in blood pressure;
  • sleep disturbance;
  • depression.

Many steroids also suppress the natural production of testosterone and lead to the development of secondary sexual characteristics (gynecomastia in men, virilization in women). This is usually due to the high androgenic activity of AAS.

To prevent irreversible changes, after courses of steroids, post-cycle therapy (PCT) is performed.

PCT Features

Depending on the severity of the course, PCT may have its own characteristics. For example, with steroids subject to aromatization, it is necessary to take antiestrogens in parallel.

Preparations for PCT are selected depending on the properties of anabolics and their effects on the body. At the same time, post-cycle therapy should be built so that it minimizes muscle loss after the course. To do this, you must:

  • restore the natural secretion of hormones;
  • restore libido and spermetogenesis;
  • tidy up the functioning of the liver, which is highly susceptible to steroids;
  • lower bad cholesterol;
  • reduce the concentration of cortisol.
